Verify TRC Validity in the UAE

How to Verify TRC Validity in the UAE

You can verify a UAE Tax Residency Certificate (TRC) online through the Federal Tax Authority (FTA). The fastest method is to scan the QR code printed on the TRC. It takes you to the official FTA verification page, where you enter the certificate’s Application Reference Number and Start Date of the Financial Year to check whether the certificate is authentic.

How to Verify a TRC Online

This is the easiest way to verify a TRC.

Method 1

▣ Scan the QR Code

Step 1 : Open the original UAE Tax Residency Certificate.
Step 2:  Find the QR code printed on the certificate.
Step 3 Scan the QR code using your phone.
Step 4 The QR code takes you to the official FTA verification page.
Step 5 Enter the requested details, including:

  • Application Reference Number
  • Start Date of Financial Year

Step 6 Submit the information.

The FTA system then checks the certificate against its records. The FTA’s user manual specifically confirms that the QR code redirects the user to the verification page and that these details are used to check authenticity.

Method 2

🔵Verify Without Scanning the QR Code

You can also access the official FTA Tax Residency Certificate platform directly. Use:  FTA TRC Verification:
https://trc.tax.gov.ae/

The FTA’s current service information identifies the TRC platform and states that the digital certificate can be downloaded from the Tax Residency Certificate service on EmaraTax after approval. For verification, use the details shown on the certificate.

What Information Do You Need to Verify a TRC?

Keep the original certificate with you. You may need:

  • Application Reference Number
  • Financial Year Start Date
  • The original TRC
  • QR code, where available

Do not rely only on a screenshot sent by another person. Ask for the original digital certificate or a clear copy showing the verification information.

How Do You Know a TRC Is Genuine?

A reliable check should be performed through the official FTA verification process, not through a third-party website. Look for these points:

01

QR Code Works
The QR code should take you to the official FTA verification process.

02

Reference Details Match
The application reference information you enter should correspond with the certificate.

03

Certificate Details Are Consistent
Check that the verified record matches the certificate, including the applicant information and relevant period.

04

Official FTA Source
Use an FTA government domain or the official TRC platform.

Do not treat a certificate as verified simply because it has a logo, stamp or QR code. The electronic verification is the stronger check.

What If the TRC Cannot Be Verified?

Do not assume immediately that the certificate is fake. First check:

  • Was the reference number entered correctly?
  • Was the financial year start date entered correctly?
  • Did you scan the QR code correctly?
  • Are you using the official FTA verification page?
  • Is the certificate readable?
  • Are you checking the original certificate?

If the details are correct and the certificate still cannot be verified, contact the FTA through its official channels. The FTA’s current service page lists its contact centre at 800 82923 and provides its official tax.gov.ae channels.

Can a TRC Be Checked After It Is Issued?

Yes. The FTA provides an authenticity verification facility for issued Tax Residency Certificates. The FTA’s user manual specifically describes verification of an issued Tax Residency Certificate using the QR code, Application Reference Number and financial year start date.

What If the Certificate Information Is Wrong?

If an issued TRC contains incorrect information, do not edit the document yourself. The FTA states that an approved TRC cannot simply be amended; a new application is required where an amendment is needed. This is important when a foreign tax authority asks for a certificate with an exact name, period or treaty-country detail.

Verify TRC Before Giving It to a Foreign Tax Authority

Before submitting your TRC to a foreign tax authority, bank or overseas organisation, check:

The certificate is the original FTA-issued document.

The QR code works.

The verification details match.

The applicant name is correct.

The covered period is correct.

The country and treaty purpose are correct, where applicable.

This is especially useful when the receiving authority asks for proof that the certificate is genuine.

TRC Verification Checklist

Use this quick checklist:

Obtain the original TRC.

Locate the QR code.

Scan the QR code.

Confirm it leads to the official FTA verification process.

Enter the Application Reference Number.

Enter the Financial Year Start Date.

Check the verification result.

Compare the result with the certificate

Save the verified certificate and supporting record.
